What this service involves
Most drains clog gradually. Kitchen lines collect grease and food residue, bathroom drains collect hair and soap film, and main lines can collect roots, scale and debris over years. A professional cleaning uses a motorized cable machine sized to the pipe, which cuts through the blockage and scrapes the pipe walls — a very different result from a plunger or a bottle of drain cleaner.
If more than one fixture is draining slowly, or you hear gurgling when a toilet flushes, the problem is usually in the main line rather than an individual drain. That is worth knowing before you spend money clearing one sink.
Signs you may need drain cleaning
- Water draining noticeably slower than it used to
- Standing water in a sink, tub or shower
- Gurgling sounds from drains or toilets
- Bad smells coming from a drain
- A clog that returns days or weeks after clearing
- Several fixtures backing up at the same time
Drain Cleaning in White Plains homes
Many White Plains homes — especially the pre-war houses around Fisher Hill and the older colonials in the Highlands — still drain through cast-iron or clay lines. Those pipes develop rough, scaled interiors that catch grease and debris far faster than modern PVC, and tree roots work into the joints of clay laterals. Regular professional cleaning, and a camera look when clogs repeat, keeps those older lines serviceable much longer.
What to expect when you call
We start by asking which fixtures are affected — that tells us whether we are dealing with a single drain or the main line. We clear the line with the appropriate cable machine, test the flow with running water, and clean up after ourselves. If the camera shows roots, a cracked section or a belly in the line, we will show you what we found and explain your options, which may include hydro jetting or a repair.

Questions about drain cleaning
Why does my drain keep clogging in the same spot?
A recurring clog usually means something in the pipe itself is catching debris — roots, a rough or cracked section, heavy scale, or a low spot where material settles. Clearing it helps for a while, but a camera inspection will show the real cause.
Are chemical drain cleaners a good idea?
We do not recommend them. They seldom clear a serious blockage, they can damage older metal pipes, and they leave caustic water sitting in the line for whoever works on it next. Mechanical cleaning is safer and works better.
How often should drains be cleaned?
There is no single schedule. A home with older pipes, big trees near the sewer line, or a history of backups benefits from a cleaning every year or two. If your drains are flowing well and have never backed up, cleaning as needed is fine.
